i'll obey because i trust Him

in recent reading of the blogs, i was touched by tanya's & sally's honesty & vulnerablity. i don't deal with fear too much but i do struggle with other stuff. like selfishness.

saturday night about 7:45 pm i was at the copy place making copies for my ChasePlace lesson. my class theme was "I'll Obey God Because I Trust Him" ; as i'm copying the stuff God & me had this conversation. He allowed this thought to cross my mind (aka God spoke to my heart...) "Get Mel a starbucks on the way home"; my first response was "Lord, can i do it some other time? i still have stuff to do. i'm getting tired & hungry. i'll get her one some other time." He said, "OK, you can choose to say NO. but how 'bout that lesson that you'll be teaching tomorrow?" so i say "Oh that? big gulp, i'm sorry Lord, i want to trust YOU, so i will obey You!" Then i finished up the copies & was thankful for that teachable moment from my Father. i needed my selfishness pointed out & i needed to practice what i was about to "preach"... but the story doesn't end there.

As i drove up to the Starbucks window to pick up the drink, the guy working asked me if i wanted a bacon sandwich. i love bacon (sorry if that makes you healthy food types gag) especially crispy, cruchy bacon! so i thought about it a second, & then he added "it's FREE". so of course i accepted this yummy bacon sandwich from this guy who had no idea that my heavenly Father had fixed that sandwich for me & that i almost let my selfishness make me miss out on it. yea GOD. boo selfishness! yea forgiveness! i love Him so!

yeah for you for listening! today's sermon was about obeying: Abraham from Hebrews. The main point? Delayed obedience is disobedience...We've got to trust God's promises no matter what, even if it doesn't make sense. The pastor said an interesting thing that I had never heard before. God had promised Abraham that his decendents would be numerous, and would come through Isaac. Then God asked him to sacrifice his Isaac. Abraham was willing to do it, and probably thought God would raise his son from the dead. However, no one had been raised from the dead, at least in the Bible, up until then! Jesus obviously hadn't come then, and as I'm thinking, were there any old testament guys raised from the dead? (let's ask Amanda, she's a preacher's kid, she'll know...:) I can't remember anybody in the old testament being raised from the dead. Abraham obeyed because he trusted God. Yeah Abraham! Yeah Carol for obeying too!

the cafeteria at mary bridge: a yummy pastry, the consistency of a softer turnover, with a lemony-cheese thing going on in the center. all wrapped up like a cinnamon bun. hard to explain, but quite yummy. and i don't really want you to produce one, cause that would mean we're back in the hospital for some reason, and i've had enough of those over the last little bit, thank you very much!!
